Going Live

It’s been roughly 90 days since we posted our Coming Soon page @hrinsights.com. And, after basically going “dark” (at least that’s what I hear from my friends and family) during that time, HRI will go live on February 1.

Our plan was to build a simple, interactive, compelling service that brings value to the small business owner or HR “practitioner” for not a lot of money. I think too many small businesses blow off HR. And when I say HR, I am not talking about payroll (which I believe is a finance activity anyway). I am talking about implementing policies and practices that establish a foundation of compliance and guide the development and care of your employees. I get that HR work can get lost in the shuffle of running a business and, when you don’t understand the subject, it is even easier to move it to the bottom of your to do list. But what I can tell you is that doing HR right IS running your business. So, with these issues in mind, we developed a service that allows people to do it themselves through compliant, decision trees, with help through access to experienced HR Advisors and/or with input through the HRI Community. In the end though, it’s not about what we think, but what our members and prospective members think. We hope they will embrace it and help us improve along the way with their input and ideas.

Special thanks to all the folks who have helped us make this a reality; the magis group, Strategic Insights and, especially, Kilo, Inc. Miles, Mike and Keith from Kilo did a phenomenal job in developing this site with us. Can’t say enough about their creativity, attitude and work ethic. They are a top-notch web development team.

Please come check us out on 2/1/10 @ www.hrinsights.com. We would love your feedback.

A Call to Action for HR Leaders, Hire!

It may be counter-intuitive in tough and challenging times, but businesses need to be proactive in creating meaningful new jobs.  Growth will not come from an attitude of cutting costs or neglect of our labor forces’ needs.

With pressures on all leaders to produce profits and conserve cash, those responsible for management of your greatest asset, people, must be vocal in proactively demonstrating the value and impact that comes from new resources and investing in development.  Every new hire can bring fresh eyes, new capability, and, especially, renewed positive energy to an organization.

It is the responsibility of all those tasked with “human resources” to not only manage their functional requirements, but to provide insights that fuel business results and growth.  Don’t wait for the need to downsize.  Proactively replace those that no longer contribute, encourage positive attitude in the organization and promote new opportunities for growth with new hires.

Adapt to competition and new opportunity by demonstrating how adding new capability through fresh resources can deliver positive growth results.  Seek new energy – our friends at the magis group have an interesting opinion on this too.
